In fact I think mine’s just a Wits a81, but that’s a whole different story. This purchase was at first what felt like a crazy mistake. It was slow, it wouldn’t run anything I wanted it to and it seemed kinda buggy.

It seemed bulky and really poorly designed on many levels. Let me go through some of the BAD things, and then how I fixed some of the bad things and then we’re at now.

First what is this thing?

It’s a MID tablet running Android 2.2, and to save you some effort no, this will NEVER upgrade to Gingerbread and no one will ever bother porting Ginger over to it. It theoretically would support it, but likely the ram would slow it down.

It contains (depending on device) an 600MHz or 800MHz Cortex A8 Processor.
256MB DDR RAM
250MB onboard storage + 2GB SDCard
Motorola USB Port, MicroSD card reader, headphone jack, wifi, bluetooth, stylus and 2 very quiet low quality speakers.

If your planning to listen to any audio via the external speakers, don’t buy this or return it asap.

If you want to game – this isn’t your device

if you want LIGHTING fast web browsing – this isn’t your device

If you want something polished without glitches this ALSO isn’t your device.

What I bought it for and what I’m using it for – is ebook reading and LIGHT web browsing and PDF viewing and for those purposes it’s OK.

Drawbacks:

I had to hack into it via ADB in order to get Portrait mode working on it.

Rooting hasn’t worked

Market doesn’t work quite right so i’ve had to side load all my aps (upload the APK file on the SD card)

I have about 10-12 apps installed and it’s memory is full.

The speakers are junk if you do use them

You have to shut it off when your not using it or the battery drains quickly.

The resistive touch isn’t very responsive

The buttons are not in the most ideal spots so in portrait mode reading ebooks it’s not very user friendly to push buttons to turn pages in Aldiko Book Reader or similar.

Doesn’t charge via USB so if you don’t bring your power plug with you your hooped.

It does take a period of time to startup from turned off

Positives:

Compared to the Creative Ziio tablet I once had, it’s screen is crisper and clearer

The battery is removable so I suppose you could order more bats cheap on ebay

The tablet is super cheap now on places like Amazon

There is a hack for portrait mode

I have made it last 3 days just viewing PDF copies of magazines

It has a kickstand for holding it up, comes with a nice case

Strangely for how thick it is it doesn’t seem TOO bulky

When wifi is working right it’s fairly fast

Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja do work good

Kindle app, and native Facebook app do work.

If your interested in MORE about the Wits A81E (A rare bird now extinct) please – comment on this blog post and I will add more, like how to fix it so you can do portrait mode for viewing ebooks. Without this feature, it’s essentially worthless (at least in my mind).

This will be my first post on the concept of hacking an HTC Desire. This same set of steps can be applied to a Google Nexus One, but probably not likely you could use the same roms/steps etc.

First off… Flashing a custom HBoot in today’s world is the only way that an HTC Desire or Nexus One is still worth having. With less than 128MB of internal storage your probably already feeling the crunch and wishing you had more space. You NEED more space. Heck, killer apps are over 20MB in size and you wanna install more than just 5 right?!?

– HBOOT and custom tables/partitions are your answer –

I’ll describe in detailed steps how to do this very soon. If you want me to post how SOONER, make sure you let me know by posting in the comments.

For those advanced nerds here’s how I did it.

Go Here:

http://www.alpharev.nl

Use unrevoked to S-OFF your phone and install Clockwork Mod Recovery.

Then, grab your tables from AlphaRev, use Android flasher to install them.
I’ll post detailed steps soon.

USING A2SD+, I currently have over a gig of apps installed on an HTC Desire with plenty of room for more. It’s nuts! I never run out of app storage on my Nexus One/Desire phone.

As most people who are familiar with the smartphone space would know, the HTC Desire and the Google Nexus one are kissing cousins, or at least super close relatives. There’s only a few subtle differences between the two.

Some minor differences:

The HTC Desire has physical buttons

The Google Nexus One has noise cancellation

Only some versions of the Desire are AMOLED.

The HTC Desire has 576MB Ram, Nexus – 512MB.

Beyond these basic differences, they’re the same platform.

– Why am I posting this? –

Well, here’s the honest and short answer. Truth is, as of several months ago I stopped posting on here. Part one, I no longer have a Nexus One. Part 2, the HTC Desire I bought doesn’t really work well with the concept of calling this the Nexus One review.

Well, I’m going to keep blogging anyway, and here’s why. They’re cousins, and few things I do will ever be non-compatible with your blessed Nexus One. In fact, nothing isn’t directly the same.

That’s right, you can now install the TouchWiz UI on your N1 using a simple APK file! Having just tried it, I can tell you that it works very well, but users should be warned it is VERY slow. You will especially notice the speed difference if you are or have been using using ADW Launcher of Launcher Pro. Hit the source link to download and install! While many may call this the demise of the Nexus One, we want to remind you that just because Google is no longer selling the phone, this does not mean that the Nexus One is no longer available. Google is planning on selling the phone directly to registered Android developers, but customer can purchase the phone through Vodafone and KT.

Unfortunately, Android 1.5 is a bit of a dinosaur at this point, but it’s still a heck of a lot better than that G’zOne Rock you’re currently toting.

Make yourself prepare- Just one week later, it will knock your hand to get its impresseion….Please let us know your first impression of this high end android phone!!!!

Motorola is one of the best Android phone manufacturers and its Android lineup has a history of heavy leaks, among this android phone Droid2 is the latest one. Android lovers already got the impression of this high end mobile phone and it’s waiting for an August 23rd release. This news was leaked from Droid-life and Engadget in the android world.

However, the Droid 2 looks just like the original Droid. The top bevel has been updated to a metal silver finish and the touch buttons have been rearranged, but other than those minor details the two models are near identical twins.

The main update of Droid2 are reside in inside, where Motorola is using the same 1 GHz processor found in the Droid X. Other updates comprise 512 MB RAM (2x the original Droid) and 8 GB of internal storage.

It also came with the same name-less Motoblur UI that is found on the Droid X. Users no need to sign in to a Motoblur account, but all the social networking options of the first Blur have been ported over.

The hardware has been finalized and the recent buzz is Verizon moved the launch date to August so the Droid 2 could launch with Android 2.2. It is great news who are waiting for Android 2.2, but current test units of the Droid 2 are still running Android 2.1. Motorola doesn’t precisely have the best pathway record when it comes to meeting deadlines on software updates, so there is always the chance the launch date could be moved again or the device will launch with Android 2.1.

The expected price is $199 with a new 2-year contract, same as the Droid X.

In the past year or so, we’ve gone from “smartphones” to “superphones” — slick, sexy pieces of hardware …
